Pieces of Soccer in Mexico

August 19th, 2009 · No Comments

Soccer in Mexico is the most televised sport. Although, this country is known for many sports in the field, it seems that the Mexicans love soccer best. Many soccer teams are also based in the country, no wonder because the highest football championship established by the Federacion Mexicana de Futbol Asociacion is in this country known as the Primera Division.

The Aztec Stadium (Estadio Azteca) in Mexico City is the fifth largest stadium in the world with the capacity of 105,000. It is as well the only stadium to host two Football World Cup final matches, in 1970 and 1986 and is the official home stadium of Mexico National football team and the Mexican team Club America.

Despite the fondness of the Mexicans in playing and watching soccer, they haven’t been that successful when it comes to the national level. On the other hand of the other hand, they managed to reach the World Cup quarter finals twice, both are during the World Cup held in the country itself. As time goes by, the Mexican soccer team gradually became powerful that they are now considered to one of the fast growing teams in America as well as on the international level.

Both men and women love to play Soccer in Mexico but unlike men, Mexican women who are into this sport needs to double their effort in order to reach a higher spot. That includes overcoming the insufficient funds, lack of infrastructure, and little support.

Obviously, it is in the culture where the treatment of men and women in sports is not that equal. This doesn’t matter only in Mexico but in many countries I guess.
